WORKERS’ NOMINEE ON PSU BOARDS: KARIM

Hon’ble Minister for Industries Shri Elamara Karim said that the government had taken a decision to include the representative of the workers of a company on the director board of the respective public sector undertaking. He was Inaugurating a state level Human resource Development programme for workers and employees of the public sector undertakings organized by Dept. of Industries and Commerce in association with RIAB and Kerala Minerals and Metals Limited at KMML premises Chavara.

Shri. Karim said as a result of the efforts taken by the government during the past four years, PSUs in the Sate had become highly competitive. A pay revision was effected in all PSUs in the state. Out of 37 PSUs, 32 are making operational profits, he said.

Kerala Minerals and Metals Limited had earned the highest profit of Rs.70 crore, in last fiscal the minister said.

All vacancies in the PSU had been filled. He said the appointment process to be totally transparent. The local people would be given priority in the appointments made to fill up the vacancies in KMML. The first priority will be given to those families which had handed over their land to the KMML and one member from each family will be considered for the appointments.

The training programmes for the workers will be conducted to enhance their capabilities and thereby the productivity will be raised, he said. The Titanium Sponge plant of the KMML and the Indian Space Research Organisation coming up at Chavara will be commissioned in December.
